We would like to present a record of a concert that took place in 2020 as part of the Northern Festival Inversia in Murmansk, Russia. The Barents Kamerata orchestra (conductor Andrey Skorokhodov) and ambient composer Ilia Symphocat performed compositions from the series "Dedication to the North". The concert was held in the walls of the Murmansk College of Arts. The recording was made on cassette tape.
Inversia Festival unites diverse communities of artists and curators from Northwest Russia and Northern Europe in Murmansk to research the phenomena of geographical isolation and cultural exclusion and dispel the idea of darkness and remoteness as negative notions.
The Barents Kamerata orchestra is an informal phenomenon for the Murmansk Region. The orchestra was created on the initiative of conductor and guitarist, laureate of the Murmansk Region Governor's Award "For a special treasure in the development of culture and arts", Andrey Skorokhodov in 2012. It consists of artists of the Murmansk Regional Philharmonic Society, the Song and Dance Ensemble of the Northern Fleet, teachers and students of the Murmansk College of Arts, etc.
Symphocat is a musical project of a Russian performer and composer working at the intersection of electronic music, modern classical music and minimalism. Symphocat's recordings combine ambient, field recordings, and experimental electronics. The musician works with the properties of harmonies and timbres of sound, feeling the connection of vibrations of subtle matters, the influence of creativity on the feeling of the inner and outer world.
